We're all just grubby little mean assholes

74 million Americans voted for Donald Trump. There's so disaffected that the fuck you to America by such a horrible human being, and even more so a horrible president, has ushered in an age of assholism, where the assholes feel free to roam free.

As horrible quote after horrible action pile up, the campaign strategy of Biden is to just play footage of Trump saying horrible things. The people who wish to say fuck you to America will like that, and hopefully enough of a slim majority will say no to that. Their contempt is blind and unfocused, but exists. The quirks of American politics give Trump a chance, and it's possible Trump could be president from jail if he's elected. The fuck you people of America would think that was funny.

Biden is old, but Trump is only 4 years younger, and seems in worse health. He's mixing things up a lot in his speechs, people are noticing, and not hiding his wannabe fascism. Biden was born 11/20/42, and Trump was born 6/14/46. That's less than 4 years by 5 months.

The disaffected people to the left of Biden could stay home and elect Trump. People want a reason to go out and vote for someone. I couldn't go out and vote for Eric Adams for Mayor of NYC, even though theoretically I didn't want the Republican Silwa to win, because he didn't make my top 5 of ranked choice for Mayor.

The left could criticize Biden for things that Trump would do worse, but that doesn't get you out to vote. All good presidents have an inspiring charism in trying to get people to follow them. Clinton and Obama had that. You need more charisma and intelligence to get past the republicans who nihilism, greed and obstruction sets a lower bar of charism. Republicans Reagan and Bushes were the last vestige of an earlier era, when you just didn't believe in government but you didn't have to be an asshole to obstruct, and Trump made a regressive move into criminality, as the means for avoiding liberal thinking. We're all just grubby little mean assholes.

The DINO Trump copycat Eric Adams is undergoing the fucked around and found out phase of his politics. New York City has more safeguards against criminal assholes than the federal government. These wannabe dictators use religion, and the Clinton charm that you're going to love that rascal anyway thinking. I see Clinton as a DINO too.

While a far right warmonger rules Israel, and warlords and gangers in hiding run Hamas, the sick dance of war continues with non-representative leaders in Israel. By definition almost, if you're a warmonger, you're not really a democracy, and you don't follow the will of the people who don't want little kids killed for nothing. War is the ultimate about nothing and obstruction, the ultimate assholeness. To pretend an extensive history lesson will justify this conflict is to slip into a sick thought world of grievance. Do better. Wage peace. (John Oliver has a good video.)

So too with American presidential election. America do better, please. There are too many big problems for instability right now. Get your shit together. American needs more discernment in their voting, because the head rots from the top, and we're killing government to our own peril. To me it seems to be the difference between good and evil.

So Representative George Santos was not voted out. Democrats didn't vote him out because he was not yet found to be guilty. The press had pretty much exposed him, but the press is not a conviction in court, or even the ethics committee. Even though they could have voted him out, they are always trying to preserve the will of the people by following customs and rules. Not something the other party does.

And lo and behold he's been found to have committed serious ethical violations, and he's not going to run again (NY Times). Democrats have patience and believe in due process.

Democracy or democrazy?

Admittedly the choice between corrupt democrats and corrupt republicans isn't the political choice I want. I'd rather vote my way towards fairness, elimination of poverty, anti-trust laws that fight the consolidation of corporations (you read about grocery stores lately?), education, infrastructure. What you do get is a vote for democrats that vote to end rail strikes ( source ) because they can't carve out of the profits a sick leave, versus reality denying, Russian bought, obstructionists who might lower taxes, and want smaller government. The Ron Swanson's of the world who hate government and work in government. I've been running into people who believe the corrupt choices aren't worth even making. Reasons not to pay attention.I've thought that a few times in my life, but I don't think that now.  There are real choices about health care for women, and even just an attitude towards democracy. It's hard to fight past the rhetoric, and understand eve

Consent

You couldn't have a better title to a memoir in these times. You can read about Humbert Humbert, and other male narratives, but the female narrative of the statutory rape is fulfilled by this book. I feel slightly ill while reading this book. What she goes through is off, and it's hard to put a finger on it besides  Hebephilia . All the collaborating details from her mother, to her doctors, to her father. Vanessa Springora will be remembered for other things, she is a director and a publisher. I'm not sure if  Gabriel Matzneff will be remembered for other things. At least not on this side of the pond. I do have a kind of jealousy for the appreciation of the intellectual life in France.  Matzneff cites Lewis Carroll , and others as having the appreciation for youth. I read his Wikipedia page. That led to other questions about photographers who take pictures of their children. That led me down a creepy path. As much as Springora tries to not make it sexy, I wonder how many
