Altered Carbon

I love the amount of naked women in the show. I wonder if a show has more than this one. You hate yourself for loving this exploitation. Perfect. The scifi concepts are good, I think the mind drive is my favorite sci-fi device. I like it in Battlestar Galactica, The 100, and other sci-fi. It's perfect questions about what makes a person, when we're so intimately connected to our bodies.  The social analysis is good, rich versus poor, veneration of the rich, etc.  The visuals are amazing beyond the naked woman all over the place.  Poe brings in a literature element, but I haven't read enough Poe, he's not my favorite genera.  Cops and mystery. Jedi and samurai. Romance and action. Genetics, family and legacy. It's all there, the big themes. Cynical narrator, mercenary with a heart.  Great exploration of fanaticism, of culture keeping the Spanish.  Martha Higareda, Kristin Lehman and Dichen Lachman are amazing. My biggest complaint is "block the chain" d...

Altered Carbon

I'm trying to figure out why I like the show Altered Carbon so much, the first season, and why I don't like the second season.  The show shows great contrasts. Great poverty, great wealth, great beauty and disgusting violence, close friendships and horrible enemies. Technology, nude women, and cynicism. Kovach is willing to die any second but he's also perhaps immortal. The mindful samurai cast into the future, is on a mystery where we only see interlocking pieces and foreshadowing. The only thing extraneous are all the nude bodies. The rich visual details present a world of temptation and disease. Ortega is hispanic heart, but is also a bad ass warrior, played by Martha Elba Guadalupe Higareda Cervantes. At least the women are small breasted in the future. I read the book and it was a rare book that wasn't better than the show. I can count on my hand those exceptions and it means the story tellers really used the medium, better than the printed language medium, which ...

Altered Carbon Season 1

Trying to figure out why Altered Carbon is so good, why the first season is great and the second one isn't so much. The nudity is part of why it's good. Sprinkle lots of nubidy into a show and you have a guaranteed hit. Extended nudity. Frequent nudity. Gorgeous nudity. I'd add in some more nudity with imperfect people if I were doing the movie. The idea of a man weighed down by memories is appealing to me.  I can't really get into the action, you know in the movie that he's going to survive. Movies don't just suddenly end with the hero dying in the middle of it. And there are tells that it is fake.  The narrative of the sexy hispanic cop is attractive. Her protective partner. Her wanting to protect the sleeve of her former lover. Her family is catholic and believes in RD or real death.  The future technology is surprising, interesting, well crafted, unique. The revealing and the carrot of what is hidden is deftly handled. The mind yearns to understand what is g...
