House of Representatives

"Let’s be clear about something: men like Scalise and Jordan – extremists and election deniers, comfortable with white supremacy and willing to discard democratic principles – have ascended to what counts for leadership in the Republican conference not in spite of the depravity of their positions, but because of them. They are the products of rightwing political, fundraising and media apparatuses that incentivize candidates to move further and further to the right – and which have left the Republican party itself both unable and unwilling to impose discipline on its politicians." Moira Donegan in the Guardian.

I watched the vote on Monday, and I saw the memes with the former ousted speaker Kevin McCarthy laughing behind Jim Jordan. Republicans don't care of they're irrelevant and impotent, that's their mission in House of Representatives. From the crazy Gerrymandered district of sexual abuse cover uping insurrectionist Jim Jordan, to the white supremacist Scalise. The game is create a proposal with even the support of nihilistic Republicans can agree on, and it's only going to be pay raises and vacation time off because they're all very selfish, a virtue to them.

It's gone to three votes so far (source). The Guardian can cover it, so they can laugh at us overseas. Stuck on stupid, is what Mike Lawler of New York says (NY Times).

So if you think government is bad, and you're all disappointed in how it's fallen short of your expectations, and would rather try to blow it up instead of fix it, keep voting for republicans and more of this.

Manet and Degas

Brilliant video explaining the exhibit. Go to the Met and see the exhibit! It's really quite special.  In the last gallery the painting this sketch is based off of, of the execution of a Mexican president. The painting has been cut into sections, and the surviving Degas has reassembled them. NY Times review

AOC

Dark Brandon meet Dark Alex. I see her advising the republicans to stick to their guns and never compromise. They don’t want to do anything, only obstruct. So they don’t actually need to be unified. Chaos isn’t organized. This is fine. Read all about it from Heather Cox Richardson , a historian who covers current events. "As their policies threatened to lose voters by concentrating wealth upward and hollowing out the middle class, Republicans increasingly warned that minority voters wanted socialism and were destroying the nation to get it. Trump rode that narrative to power, and now tearing down the current government is the idea that drives the Republican base." While we're at it, here's another funny photo from the Onion: And then: I listened to the Times podcast about George Santos . He basically lied about, I don't know, 80% of his resume, and has a mysterious $700k in his "corporation" which has no clients. So he's a Russian or Chinese plant, o...
