Quotes from a liar

"If I lose to him, I don't know what I'm going to do. I will never speak to you again," Trump told the attendees at the rally. "You'll never see me again." - Donald Trump, Sept. 20, 2020, North Carolina

“Trump just vowed to push for term limits for members of Congress and a lifetime ban on lobbying for former lawmakers, both of which were promises from his 2016 race — and both of which his White House never sought to adopt in any of the four years he was president.” - NYT

Daughter is out. She's not going to participate in this campaign, like the last 2. I saw a sign once in front of a guy's house in Florida which said, "Ivanka 2024". Guess that's not happening.

The whole point isn't to do things, though, people will vote for "lower taxes" even if they are not literally lower, and against the progressive imagination of helping people. I bet it's a much harder sell after he's been even more exposed as traitorous to national security.

“I want to remind you that Donald Trump once got a hurricane's pathing wrong and so he drew it on a map with a sharpie and presented it to the American people as fact. He is not a man who has ever permitted "what is possible" or "what is reasonable" to stop him from saying whatever the fuck nonsense comes to mind.” Reddit

The image for me is people heading to the exit once he starts talking and the exits are locked. Trapped. (Source) The man is literally saying nothing.

Manet and Degas

Brilliant video explaining the exhibit. Go to the Met and see the exhibit! It's really quite special.  In the last gallery the painting this sketch is based off of, of the execution of a Mexican president. The painting has been cut into sections, and the surviving Degas has reassembled them. NY Times review

6 month old podcast

Al Franken has a podcast , and he has my favorite Heather Cox Richardson , and they have an interesting discussion. He talks about the knife edge. She really explains the Republican strategy. Flood the zone with shit. Alternate facts, and fake news opens up the idea that there is no reality. It's basically reality versus false reality.  The goal is to both get people to back away from politics, and to tell them how to specifically think. Developed in Russia, a system of overturning democracy. Running fake candidates, who switch parties, and running candidates with the same name. Blackmail is a technique. Create a fake reality that people come to believe. They're willing to vote for a narrative is not true, and they're willing to vote away their rights.  You can flip it and use the same tools. You can weaponize social media by ignoring the shit, and fight back against all these techniques. People defend democracy. They're talking about community and caring for people and ...
