Election Results

The federal legislature is too close to call, the results aren't all in for the Senate and House

Results that Democrats like

Fetterman won in PA

Hochul won governor New York over Zeldin

Ralph Warnock beat Herschel Walker. But there’s going to be a runoff because it was close.

Letitia James has won her reelection as New York’s Attorney General.

Whitmer remains in Michigan. Democrats won control of both the Michigan state Senate and Michigan state House. Democrats will now have full control of Michigan state government.

Governor Evers won in Wisconsin and Republicans didn't get a super majority.

Chuck Schumer has won his senate reelection in New York.

Maura Healy won in Massachusetts

Democrats have flipped the entire State Senate of Minnesota

Mary Peltola beat Sarah Palin in Alaska for the 3rd time in a Republican state.

Kari Lake lost in Arizona to Katie Hobbs in Governor race.

Dough Mastriano lost to Josh Shapiro in PA governor race.

Democrat Greg Landsman in Ohio has been elected to Congress. This is a FLIP. Seat was previously held by Republicans.

Trump lost 40 house seats in his first midterm.
Obama lost 63

Biden’s house is a dead heat.

Results that Republicans like

DeSantis won in Florida

Abbott won in Texas

Huckabee won in Arkansas

Brian Kemp won in Georgia over Stacy Abrams.

Ron Johnson won in Wisconsin

JD Vance beat Tim Ryan in Ohio

Marco Rubio beat Val Demings in Florida

Marjorie Taylor Greene won in Georgia

Boebert: Looks like she lost by 73 votes. Now they're saying Bobo won by 1,776 votes. Right now google says she won by 1,122 votes. In the recount they're fixing ballots, so it's not clear if she's going to win or not. But right now (11/15/22) she's in the lead 124 votes. Now it’s 615? (11/17/22) 11/18 it’s over 500 with 99% reporting.

My big question is if Trump decides not to run, can Biden pull off a win where he would be 81 to start a 4 year term. I think he wins if Trump Runs. But anyone else, and it's a question. And if that's true, who's going to challenge Biden in the democratic primary? Here is my list so far and reasons why they're no good:

Pete Buttigieg: would whip up the opposition base with homophobia.

Beto O'Rourke: Lost too much.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: Seen as too far left.

Michael Bennet: Unknown

Raphael Warnock: Black. I'd like to live in the world where that didn't matter, but Obama had to be perfect. You can only have so many strikes against you, before you need the most impossible resume to overcome it.

Tim Ryan: lost

Jared Polis: From liberal Boulder

Charlie Baker: From liberal Massachusetts

Larry Hogan: Where is Maryland?

John Bel Edwards: Southern white democrat, married, Catholic. Small time state Louisiana.

Bernie Sanders: Seen as too far left, party sabotages

Katie Porter: Californian

Stacy Abrams: Lost

Gavin Newsom: Least strikes against as far as I can tell.

Cory Booker: Too woke

Michael Bloomberg: Too center/right

Adam Schiff: Could whip up opposition base with his work

Elizabeth Warren: 73

I think the first woman president will be a Republican because Democrats like representation and it won't whip up the base, but that's not true the other way around. If Biden is too old, there must be a young candidate. I think the best candidate is a hetrosexual Christian male, not too far left. I think a strategy for democrats is to run someone who whips up the least amount of ire among republicans. Of course the best person should run, but they have to have a lot of qualities. They have to have charisma and whip up the democrat base. They have to not whip up the republican base. Any deviation from the norm can be exploited. I think that really limits the amount of talent, but it is what it is. I want to live in the ideal world where republicans can't exploit sexuality, race, gender, but alas, we're not always engaging with the best of humanity, we have to account for the worst in humanity.

Gavin Newsom (55) struggled with alcoholism before he got married a second time in 2008, went to treatment. That doesn't disqualify him for me. Bush was a dry alcoholic. Just trying to sniff out any problems. He's from a big state. He's pretty middle of the road even if he went on Jimmy Kimmel, which just makes fun of the right, but in this hyper partisan world making fun of the right makes you far left.

Turns out Newsom's wife was raped by Weinstein or "I’m just this blow-up doll that he’s just trying to masturbate off of." (NY Post) Of course the Post is the one to break that story. She testified at his ongoing trail.

12/29/22: "the Democratic governor of California, Gavin Newsom, announced he would not run, regardless of President Joe Biden’s plans." Politico

Democracy or democrazy?

Admittedly the choice between corrupt democrats and corrupt republicans isn't the political choice I want. I'd rather vote my way towards fairness, elimination of poverty, anti-trust laws that fight the consolidation of corporations (you read about grocery stores lately?), education, infrastructure. What you do get is a vote for democrats that vote to end rail strikes ( source ) because they can't carve out of the profits a sick leave, versus reality denying, Russian bought, obstructionists who might lower taxes, and want smaller government. The Ron Swanson's of the world who hate government and work in government. I've been running into people who believe the corrupt choices aren't worth even making. Reasons not to pay attention.I've thought that a few times in my life, but I don't think that now.  There are real choices about health care for women, and even just an attitude towards democracy. It's hard to fight past the rhetoric, and understand eve

You couldn't have a better title to a memoir in these times. You can read about Humbert Humbert, and other male narratives, but the female narrative of the statutory rape is fulfilled by this book. I feel slightly ill while reading this book. What she goes through is off, and it's hard to put a finger on it besides  Hebephilia . All the collaborating details from her mother, to her doctors, to her father. Vanessa Springora will be remembered for other things, she is a director and a publisher. I'm not sure if  Gabriel Matzneff will be remembered for other things. At least not on this side of the pond. I do have a kind of jealousy for the appreciation of the intellectual life in France.  Matzneff cites Lewis Carroll , and others as having the appreciation for youth. I read his Wikipedia page. That led to other questions about photographers who take pictures of their children. That led me down a creepy path. As much as Springora tries to not make it sexy, I wonder how many
