Why I don't like Andrew Yang

First off he ran for president, based on no political experience. Then he ran for mayor based on no political or governmental experience. He lost his two political races, not even close. Solution? Create a party in between the right of center Democrats and far right wing Republicans. Really? He defends the sentiment that Trump should be let off the hook, that seeing justice as blind is a political act? Please, a shill for the status quo is not what a 3rd party is about. A third party is democratic socialism or green party, something that doesn't just fall between far right and center right.

I want representation, I want more Asian heritage candidates. There are some Asian American politicians from my area. I really like Lindy Li.

Trying to harness the disaffected, "politicians don't do anything," sentiment isn't really productive. You wouldn't pick someone with no professional experience in almost any other profession. Working in government is a profession. You wouldn't pick an artist to suddenly switch over to engineering. You wouldn't pick a baseball player to suddenly do surgery. You wouldn't even pick a florist to pick up garbage, but maybe that would work if they could physically do it. There are some things where probably just about anyone could do them. But you can't find someone to let you. It's just not how the world works. Someone like Katheryn Garcia has worked in government for quite a while. Her resume was great for Mayor. At least Eric Adams had been in politics for a while.

Maybe politics is a ceremonial communications position, and your underlings handle everything and you communicate, hire and fire, and put on a show. Still don't see Yang in that position. Still don't see the need for the 3rd party niche he's trying to carve out.

“And here comes Yang, peddling a false coalition, which will do nothing but clear a path for the worst America has to offer. He knows this. So do Republicans. It’s more important that the left understand this. Because every vote he takes, is one the lunatic right gains.” Steve Marmel

If you think it’s so easy to go from business to government, then get a job in government and then run.

Democracy or democrazy?

Admittedly the choice between corrupt democrats and corrupt republicans isn't the political choice I want. I'd rather vote my way towards fairness, elimination of poverty, anti-trust laws that fight the consolidation of corporations (you read about grocery stores lately?), education, infrastructure. What you do get is a vote for democrats that vote to end rail strikes ( source ) because they can't carve out of the profits a sick leave, versus reality denying, Russian bought, obstructionists who might lower taxes, and want smaller government. The Ron Swanson's of the world who hate government and work in government. I've been running into people who believe the corrupt choices aren't worth even making. Reasons not to pay attention.I've thought that a few times in my life, but I don't think that now.  There are real choices about health care for women, and even just an attitude towards democracy. It's hard to fight past the rhetoric, and understand eve...

Manet and Degas

Brilliant video explaining the exhibit. Go to the Met and see the exhibit! It's really quite special.  In the last gallery the painting this sketch is based off of, of the execution of a Mexican president. The painting has been cut into sections, and the surviving Degas has reassembled them. NY Times review
