Gina Carano

A penny dropped, watching Mandalorian and thinking about the actress who was canceled. She made some tweets that were "political". She feels canceled. Disney is a woke corporation, pursuing a liberal agenda--is what they say.

To me a political choice is abstractly wanting a smaller government, but not at the cost of lives. If people die, then it's not political, it's murderous. The canceling isn't politics, it's valuing human life. Pro-life.

"Gina Carano will not be returning to The Mandalorian or the Star Wars galaxy after sharing a post on social media implying that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust." (source of quote, source, source)

So because you expressed a noxious death cult opinion, you lost your job, and you compare that to people being rounded up and murdered. And people get offended. Go figure.

It's one thing to have a political difference. I think we should tax the rich to redistribute the grossly wealthy and pay for social programs. I played SimCity and the city must be in budget, and lowering taxes once everything is humming is a way to create growth, but that is balanced with things that make the citizens happy. I know you can't have everything. My soccer team didn't buy a player in the last transfer window. I don't imagine you can always get new things, get everything you want. But can we get some?

My friend argued that perhaps Ukraine surrendering would have saved lives, and avoided war trauma. Now that's an argument for not getting involved and at the center it's about saving lives and avoiding trauma. That's a respectable difference of opinion. I don't know if I agree, but at least it's thinking about consequences and values life.

If I asked my friend if he was willing to be taxed a penny to save lives, he would agree to it.

Being against vaccines doesn't value life. When you say, "but people still get Covid," is just shows how ignorant you are and having an opinion that kills other people, and spreads misinformation, isn't OK. Opinions kill people, they're not just things you're entitled to.

Imagining stricter gun laws takes away freedom isn't accurate. The freedom to die from a gun shooter isn't a freedom. The freedom to die of Covid isn't a freedom. Actually value life and you can join the discussion. To be a shill for selfish industry interests at the expense of human life, and you can be canceled. And it's not a debate. If you don't share the same reality about the world, and you think 5 people dying on January 6th is OK in a protest, then you don't share the same reality I am in and we can't talk if we don't agree on baseline reality. Call me whatever you want.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if she's somehow supported by the same people who love Kyle Rittenhouse and pay money to support the overthrow of democracy. I'm looking at you pillow guy. There's a weird underground conservative economy, and you can not participate in the larger economy with noxious ideas, but you can also be put up in the dark economy that supports death cult people, that thrives off cancellations.

It's funny, she's in a movie about protecting yourself against the evil empire, but she's spouts the American evil empire's talking points.

I think conservatism is a personality type and I don't think you should outlaw personality types. Reasonable conservatives have faded into the background as far as I can tell. Pretending the reality is different is part of a spin is not the right move as far as I'm concerned. The big lie and all the little lies are not a political difference, it's an assault on the fabric of society.

I get it that Carano was a MMA fighter and has a combative style, doesn't mind violence.

And I think it's OK to say imperfect things and learning. I read her twitter feed, and she seems to associate losing the right to guns as a step in the fall of Venezuela, but I think it's the anti-democratic steps that contributed to its downfall. Her support of gun malarkey is in line with the death cult corporate shills.

Since republicans decided to only try to whip up their base, they have stopped trying to appeal to all Americans and only see their base as their constituents. They have become the party who doesn't care about all Americans, and thus only need their base.

Another thought I’ve been having is that the anti-government sentiment is profoundly ungrateful.

Turns out she did make a far right wing movie. Source

9/15/22 Update. She's on Tucker Carlson complaining and spouting her nonsense. It's a self fulfilling prophecy, she spouts her nonsense and then is surprised people find it dangerous. Total self sabotage job. "Carano talks about Disney offering her solutions to her online bigotry and how to help her, and instead, she again acts like she’s the victim."

And, "It was her posting and her reportedly doing whatever she wanted—against her employer’s wishes, drawing negative attention to them—that got her fired."

Let me tell you sister, there's no job where you don't have to curb your communication. Nor is there a place where you can just say everything you think and not have consequences for your communication. Whether it's a liberal bent or a conservative bent, or just a public safety bent. There are all kinds of vectors and limitations to communication. If you've got some sort of martyr complex, you can say those words and get yourself martyred. Self sabotage is more like it.

"...she wants people to feel bad for her, and it’s working. It is just people like Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro who are taken in by the bullshit."

Democracy or democrazy?

Admittedly the choice between corrupt democrats and corrupt republicans isn't the political choice I want. I'd rather vote my way towards fairness, elimination of poverty, anti-trust laws that fight the consolidation of corporations (you read about grocery stores lately?), education, infrastructure. What you do get is a vote for democrats that vote to end rail strikes ( source ) because they can't carve out of the profits a sick leave, versus reality denying, Russian bought, obstructionists who might lower taxes, and want smaller government. The Ron Swanson's of the world who hate government and work in government. I've been running into people who believe the corrupt choices aren't worth even making. Reasons not to pay attention.I've thought that a few times in my life, but I don't think that now.  There are real choices about health care for women, and even just an attitude towards democracy. It's hard to fight past the rhetoric, and understand eve

You couldn't have a better title to a memoir in these times. You can read about Humbert Humbert, and other male narratives, but the female narrative of the statutory rape is fulfilled by this book. I feel slightly ill while reading this book. What she goes through is off, and it's hard to put a finger on it besides  Hebephilia . All the collaborating details from her mother, to her doctors, to her father. Vanessa Springora will be remembered for other things, she is a director and a publisher. I'm not sure if  Gabriel Matzneff will be remembered for other things. At least not on this side of the pond. I do have a kind of jealousy for the appreciation of the intellectual life in France.  Matzneff cites Lewis Carroll , and others as having the appreciation for youth. I read his Wikipedia page. That led to other questions about photographers who take pictures of their children. That led me down a creepy path. As much as Springora tries to not make it sexy, I wonder how many
