TV today

Today is the 6th Obi-Wan Kenobi episode. The last Kenobi Wednesday. It's been glorious to have something to look forward to.

My big question is if Kenobi can guess that guess that Reva is going after Darth Vader, then why can't Darth Vader figure it out? Why didn't Vader kill Kenobi when he had a chance? A lot of people go on social media and complain about people complaining. I feel like I have to watch the show a few more times to have more deep thoughts.

I get it that storytelling isn't reality and you're always going to have plot weaknesses. Why did Cordelia just not placate her father to get her inheritance? Why does Macbeth keep killing and getting worse and worse? What doesn't Hamlet just kill his uncle?

I hope I'm not seen as a hater, I do like the show, just asking questions. Like in the movie Hustle with Adam Sandler on Netflix, why didn't the Spanish player play in the Spanish league if he was so good, it would pay more than construction.

Umbrella Academy dropped another whole season, 10 episodes. The second season wasn't so great, and I'm realizing that I don't like time travel and alternate universes, but they got me on the first season. I'm curious to see how they handle Page's transition or if they do.

The final element of excitement for me today watching TV on my laptop today is NYCFC versus Red Bulls in the quarterfinal of the Open Cup at 8pm. The Red Bulls have won twice as many derby faceoffs over all competitions, but this is going to be a major battle between two very good teams in a high stakes game. The winner would need 2 more wins to hoist a trophy and that's what it's all about. NYCFC is the new upstart team, only 7 years old, but they have won the MLS Cup, which has eluded the Red Bulls over it's 26 years of existence. They field good competitive teams that have good fundamentals but their biggest claim to fame is the Supporters' Shield, which is a pretty good claim to fame. The Hudson Derby may be a marketing concoction, but the truth is that they always are intense games, and the level of smack talk goes to high levels. My cousins are big fans of Red Bulls, and I'm going to have to talk some smack to them before the game, and then depending on the results, after the game.

I need an escape. I've just learned that New Mexico almost didn't certify the election, Trump almost succeeded there in his cheating mendacious ways. And in Maine, the Supreme Court ruled that state funds could go to religious schools. I feel like our brittle democracy isn't doing so well, the ideals I thought were American seem to be eroding. Maybe this country needs to devolve for a while, but I don't like it.

My own personality and life is quite impaired and suspect. How far can you escape from your own life? To be sure escapism is part of the problem, focusing more on solving real problems instead of escaping into entertainment is part of the problem. I'm going to give myself a day though, because it's rare to get this many good thing to watch. Tomorrow is another day.

Haja Estree is a fake Jedi in the Kenobi series. Our society promotes fakeness. Our society promotes alienation from our true self, encourages the Sith path. People who get into a dark groove feel justified. Minimize the hurt they can do you and don't underestimate their energy and resolve, but see people clearly, read their actions. It can all be feint and fakes, but actions speak louder than words.

Democracy or democrazy?

Admittedly the choice between corrupt democrats and corrupt republicans isn't the political choice I want. I'd rather vote my way towards fairness, elimination of poverty, anti-trust laws that fight the consolidation of corporations (you read about grocery stores lately?), education, infrastructure. What you do get is a vote for democrats that vote to end rail strikes ( source ) because they can't carve out of the profits a sick leave, versus reality denying, Russian bought, obstructionists who might lower taxes, and want smaller government. The Ron Swanson's of the world who hate government and work in government. I've been running into people who believe the corrupt choices aren't worth even making. Reasons not to pay attention.I've thought that a few times in my life, but I don't think that now.  There are real choices about health care for women, and even just an attitude towards democracy. It's hard to fight past the rhetoric, and understand eve

Consent

You couldn't have a better title to a memoir in these times. You can read about Humbert Humbert, and other male narratives, but the female narrative of the statutory rape is fulfilled by this book. I feel slightly ill while reading this book. What she goes through is off, and it's hard to put a finger on it besides  Hebephilia . All the collaborating details from her mother, to her doctors, to her father. Vanessa Springora will be remembered for other things, she is a director and a publisher. I'm not sure if  Gabriel Matzneff will be remembered for other things. At least not on this side of the pond. I do have a kind of jealousy for the appreciation of the intellectual life in France.  Matzneff cites Lewis Carroll , and others as having the appreciation for youth. I read his Wikipedia page. That led to other questions about photographers who take pictures of their children. That led me down a creepy path. As much as Springora tries to not make it sexy, I wonder how many
