Rocky Horror Picture Show

Saw the Perks Of Being A Wallflower the other day, and I loved the scenes where they did the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I never went to one that elaborate, but I waited in line with friends and enjoyed the show many times at midnight.

Watched Rocky Horror Picture Show yesterday, the way I watch most things now. I put it on in the background while I look at my phone. But I did notice a few things. One is that there's a song that's not on the album, about how Janet needs to wise up. I found it on a few tribute albums.

I read the Wikipedia page on it. Riff Raff was one of the authors. They wrote another one called Shock Treatment that I want to see. Not successful in the same way.

I never realized how "Don't dream it/Be it" is a self help slogan.

Then I watched Blade Runner. I never really noticed how rapey the relationship with Decker and the android was. We've learned about consent since the movie was made.

I recently saw Made For Love, 8 episodes, with a hint of Lars and the Real Girl and 2001: Space Odyssey.

Every movie has flaws. Star Wars has all this shooting and nobody good ever gets hurt. The violence is somehow denuded of it's violence.

I love how Natalie Portman who's just been revived, runs in the sand in end of episode 2.

Democracy or democrazy?

Admittedly the choice between corrupt democrats and corrupt republicans isn't the political choice I want. I'd rather vote my way towards fairness, elimination of poverty, anti-trust laws that fight the consolidation of corporations (you read about grocery stores lately?), education, infrastructure. What you do get is a vote for democrats that vote to end rail strikes ( source ) because they can't carve out of the profits a sick leave, versus reality denying, Russian bought, obstructionists who might lower taxes, and want smaller government. The Ron Swanson's of the world who hate government and work in government. I've been running into people who believe the corrupt choices aren't worth even making. Reasons not to pay attention.I've thought that a few times in my life, but I don't think that now.  There are real choices about health care for women, and even just an attitude towards democracy. It's hard to fight past the rhetoric, and understand eve...

Manet and Degas

Brilliant video explaining the exhibit. Go to the Met and see the exhibit! It's really quite special.  In the last gallery the painting this sketch is based off of, of the execution of a Mexican president. The painting has been cut into sections, and the surviving Degas has reassembled them. NY Times review
